20 years of the Long Night of Research: Salzburg invites you to marvel!
There is great anticipation because the Long Night of Research will celebrate a very special anniversary in 2026. The 10th edition of this popular event will take place in Salzburg on April 24, 2026. To mark 20 years, there are 11 locations, all under the motto "Participate. Marvel. Discover." stand. This event is the largest of its kind in the German-speaking region and has been attracting all interested citizens and science professionals since 2005.
From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., visitors can look forward to interactive experiments, exciting tours and hands-on stations. The extensive program offers over 2,000 program items, ranging from lectures and presentations to workshops and live experiments. All of this can be experienced free of charge and makes for a real family outing, because the subject areas cover digitalization, mobility, climate, energy, health, culture and society - there is something for everyone.
Insights into the world of science
The Long Night of Research aims to inspire children and young people in particular for science and research. With around 170,000 visitors attending over 270 locations in 2024, it is clear: enthusiasm for the topic is growing. The event is financially supported by the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism. In collaboration with eight federal states, some universities and various research institutions, a network is being built to make research from Austria visible and tangible.
The LNF will be particularly interesting for anyone who is curious and enjoys tinkering. The participation of the FH Salzburg, the Paracelsus Medical Private University, the HTL Salzburg and many other institutions ensures that visitors can experience first-hand what is going on in scientific teaching.
Preparations are underway
The detailed information and the complete program are expected to be published on the Long Night of Research website in spring 2026.
