Finally light at the end of the tunnel: Bridge new building in Sam!
In Salzburg something is happening on the construction sites. After waiting for years, the city begins in autumn 2025 with the construction of the bridge on Bachwinkelweg in Sam. This measure not only brings a breath of fresh air through the new construction projects, but also a crucial step to improve the infrastructure in the region. The old bridge has been closed since summer 2023 after it was found that it is no longer sustainable. The construction contract was already awarded in 2021, but various delays, such as a lack of access authorizations and the agreement with residents, led to the work can only start now. A resident was only granted this year, which dragged the long -awaited new building even further.
The construction work is scheduled to begin on September 29, 2025, with a planned completion until April 2026. The costs amount to around 800,000 euros. It is particularly gratifying that the new bridge will be built wider than its predecessor and an important cycling axis. "The old bridge caused displeasure because pedestrians and cyclists had to accept great detours," explains a city representative. In order to ensure construction site access, access will be carried out via the commercial area on the opposite bank. During the construction work, the Treppelweg along the Alterbach is also blocked in the affected section, and redirection is set up.
Bridge construction projects in Salzburg
But not only the bridge on the Bachwinkelweg is on the agenda. A total of 30 bridge construction sites are planned in Salzburg in 2025, which are distributed across all districts. The country's bridge construction department monitors around 1,500 bridge structures, whose renovation needs have increased, especially in the bridges built between the 1960s and 1980s. Governor Deputy Stefan Schnöll emphasizes the importance of a safe road network and emphasizes that 30 employees of the department continuously control the infrastructure.
- Flachgau: 8 Sanierungen, 2 Neubauten
- Tennengau: 7 Sanierungen
- Pongau: 4 Sanierungen, 1 Neubau
- Pinzgau: 14 Sanierungen, 2 Neubauten
Regular checks of the bridges take place every two years, while detailed exams are carried out every six to twelve years. This preventive surveillance system has already borne fruit, as the case of the Schmitttunnel in Zell am See shows, where a dangerous weak point was discovered early.
With these extensive investments, Salzburg will rely on a modern and, above all, safe traffic route. The construction of the Bachwinkelweg Bridge is only the beginning in a series of measures that will change the townscape sustainably and increase the quality of life of the residents. Citizens can be excited to see what the next year will bring.
