Constanze Mozart Orchestra Academy: Young talent for the stage!

The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg has started its training project “Constanze Mozart Orchestra Academy” with the 2025/26 season. The aim of this innovative program is to prepare talented young instrumentalists for a professional orchestra career. The academy is aimed primarily at musicians in advanced phases of study at music universities or music colleges. The concept is based on the principle of “training on the job”, which means that the participants are actively involved in the life of the orchestra. These include concerts, opera productions, CD recordings, tours as well as chamber music and music education projects, as drehpunktkultur.at reports.

The mentor relationship is particularly pleasing: Experienced musicians from the Mozarteum Orchestra provide the academics with advice and support. In addition to musical training, the academy also includes training in performance training, mental strength, communication and health care. This comprehensive support ensures that the young talents are encouraged not only in their instrument, but also in their entire personality. The naming of the academy honors Constanze Mozart, the widow of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a significant figure in the Salzburg music scene who contributed to the founding of renowned music institutions, adds the mozarteumorchester.at.

The academy's first successes

The first public appearance of the academics took place as part of the DYNAMIKfest Salzburg on November 4th in the Bachschmiede. Under the motto “Strings Serenade”, the talented musicians presented Mozart's “Little Night Music” and Dvořák's String Quintet in G major, op. 77. Participants such as Sofía Moya Barragán, Guilherme Perez, Jelisaveta Čivović, Paul Garnier and Anghelo Mateo Panchi Terán impressively demonstrated their skills. The DYNAMIKfest, founded by Clarissa Bevilacqua, supports artists under the age of 30 and lasted until November 9th.

There was overwhelming interest in the academy: out of a total of 120 applications from Europe, Asia and South America, only five musicians were selected. This diversity not only illustrates the high quality, but also the international reputation of the Salzburg music academies. Financial support for this valuable project comes from the company LEICA, the Association of Friends of the Mozarteum Orchestra and the former chief conductor Leopold Hager, as also reported by drehpunktkultur.at.

Support for music culture

Another important aspect of promoting young talent in the music scene can be seen in the initiative of the German Orchestra Foundation. With its #MusiciansZukunft program, the foundation awards scholarships to young, freelance musicians and master's students at German music universities. The total volume of support is around 350,000 euros. This underlines the need to make it easier for young musicians and ensembles to start their careers in classical and contemporary music, which miz.org highlights in a current report.

With their programs, the Mozarteum Orchestra and similar institutions make a significant contribution to promoting musical culture not only in Salzburg, but beyond its borders. Clear signs like these show that something is happening - supporting young talent is essential to keeping the classical music scene vibrant and innovative.
