An exciting chapter for the Salzburg Cultural Association begins! With Benjamin Schmid at the top as the new artistic director, the upcoming season 2025/26 promises an exciting mix of classical music, jazz and innovative formats. Schmid, a well-known face in the Salzburg cultural scene, has already presented his first program, which comprises 49 highlights in ten subscription groups. Schmid, who made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1986, has a 40-year connection to the cultural association. He participated in over 30 orchestral concerts and is internationally known for his cooperation with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic. The Salzburger Nachrichten reports about the opening of the new season, which is heralded with a special evening: Benjamin Schmid will enchant the audience in the large festival house together with Helmut Zeilner.

Ceremonial opening

With a solemn concert, Schmid will herald his new role in the large festival house on October 4 and 11. One of the highlights of the opening program is Mozart's violin concert KV 216 as well as works by Frank Martin, Franz Schubert and Prokofiev. Helmut Zeilner will lead the Klangscala chamber choir and inspire the audience with an A-Capella concert. The Viennese chamber choir under the direction of Michael Grohotolsky will also be heard with a wide range of choral music that ranges from "German romanticism" to "Stern hours of choral music".

Various programs for all tastes

On November 7th, the opening concert of jazz trilogy will be led by the well-known musician Thomas Gansch with the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Lower Austria. Further jazz evenings take place with the OFJAZZTRA Vienna Orchestra and a homage evening to Django Reinhardt.

Schmid describes the music as a connecting element in society, and this leitmotif runs through the entire annual program. Among other things, top-class conductors such as Andrey Boreyko, Thomas Sondergard and Andrés Orozco-Eestrada will lead the large orchestral cycles. There is something for every music lover!
