Austria Salzburg's home game is sold out again - but the points are missing!
Last Saturday, Austria Salzburg lost 2-1 in an exciting home game against Sturm Graz II. In the arena in the Maxglan Stadium, which was once again filled to capacity, over 1,500 fans watched the encounter, which was the seventh home game in a row for the hosts that was sold out. However, the good mood that the loyal supporters brought with them was marred by the result.
The game started promisingly for coach Matthias Almer's team when Daniel Bares scored the first goal in the 34th minute. But the joy didn't last long as the hosts couldn't extend their lead. In the 61st minute, Wisler Lazarre equalized for Sturm Graz II and Jakob Ploner secured the guests victory in the 84th minute. Despite several good chances, Austria Salzburg could no longer score. After the game, goalkeeper Simon Nesler-Täubl spoke of repeated defensive mistakes that had fatal consequences.
Home and away record
The statistics of the season so far show that Austria Salzburg was able to collect ten points in seven home games, with three wins, one draw and a goal difference of 15:12. On the other hand, the away record looks less rosy: Here the team from Salzburg has only achieved one win and one draw in six games and only has four points.
In recent days, Vice President Hubert Palfinger has discussed the need for a new stadium, as spectators regularly have to be turned away. President Claus Salzmann also announced an impending change in leadership at the club. This could potentially bring a breath of fresh air to the current challenges.
Viewership in football
But what happens next for Austria Salzburg? After the international break there will be a duel against Austria Lustenau, who are currently in third place. The coming weeks will show whether the team can flip the switch and get back on the road to success.
