Salzburg celebrates Europa League victory against Go Ahead Eagles 2-0

There was great joy in the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg on Thursday, November 14th, 2025! The local players from Red Bull Salzburg were finally able to celebrate in the Europa League and secured their first win of the current season against the Go Ahead Eagles. With a clear 2-0 win after a goalless first half, the team has now fought its way back into the race for the coveted play-off places. In front of 10,852 spectators, Salzburg showed what they were made of and, after this success, they continued to compete in the competition with a new hope that further inspired the fans.

Although the first half was characterized by cautious tactics, Salzburg picked up the pace in the second half. The visitors' strong defense initially presented the team with major challenges, especially in the first half, where apart from a good attempt by Bischoff in the 34th minute, not much came together. After the break, however, Salzburg took control and had more possession - which ultimately paid off.

Goal party after the break

In the 59th minute the time had come: Vertessen scored the first goal after a fine assist from Kjaergaard. Almost 20 minutes later, Terzic went one better and made the decision with a precise shot under the crossbar. With this performance, Salzburg also got rid of the disgrace of three previous defeats in the group phase of the Europa League, as the deficit was clear after the defeats against Lyon (0:2) and Ferencvaros (2:3). So Jenniferaurants did quite well to win in Bonn!

The personnel situation was not ideal that evening. Captain Schlager and Bistrup had to sit out due to injuries, while Alajbegovic was out sick. The 18-year-old Zawieschitzky was in goal, complemented by Bischoff, Vertessen and Baidoo on the offensive. The victory was not only a waste for the statistics, but should also provide momentum for the upcoming games, including against Bologna, Freiburg, Aston Villa and a home game against FC Basel.

Historical significance and outlook

The Go Ahead Eagles came to the Red Bull Arena with a respectable record of two wins against Panathinaikos and Aston Villa, but were unable to build on those performances. They did not achieve the desired turnaround against the Austrian champions, who are at the top of the Bundesliga with 24 points from 12 games. In major international competitions, Dutch teams are often timid against Salzburg; Out of 13 encounters, only three encounters could be won.

The European history of the Salzburgers is remarkable. They have boasted over 17 championships and nine national cup victories since the takeover of SV Austria Salzburg by Red Bull in 2005. Last year they were convinced that the team recovered after the tenth championship in a row, as well as the market value of the squad of around 180 million euros thanks to a positive transfer balance of 44 million euros, which gives the club a bright perspective after the crisis.

With the positive turnaround in the game and the challenges ahead, not only will the euphoria be revived, but the expectations of the talented Red Bull Salzburg team will also increase to continue to impress on the international stage. Fans can look forward to an exciting winter quarter.
