Kanupolo combines elements from water sports and ball sports and inspires more and more active athletes and spectators. At the last Austrian state championship, which was held in Liefering on the last weekend in August, the potential of this exciting discipline was impressively demonstrated. The bathing lake offers excellent prerequisites for training and competitions, as the season ranges from early April to the end of September.

The Union Kanupolo Salzburg Since it was founded in August 2015, a sporting home has developed for all Kanupolo enthusiasts. The location on the Salzach Badesee has set the sail since April 2018 and is becoming increasingly popular. Both hobby and competitive athletes train here, with courses for interested parties have also been offered since 2018. The children's courses start in the U-10 and range until the U-14.
With a successful 2019 season in the back, the Salzburg athletes were able to enter the Austrian championship title in 2020, supplemented by five runner -up titles. The international stage was also entered in 2021 when an international tournament was launched. This shows that Kanupolo is also very popular across Austria's borders and that the invitation to participate in the Kanupolo community is happy to accept.
Sports in the water
The Kanupolo playing field is a rectangular water area of 23 × 35 meters, in which two teams, each fight for the goal, fight the ball into the opposing goal. Technical skills, speed and strength must not be underestimated. The rules are similar to those of other team sports, with the goalkeeper enjoying special protection in this fast -moving discipline.
The equipment includes robust Kanupolo boats, special polo paddles as well as life jackets and helmets with protective grilles. The players have to communicate strategically to start attacks and keep defensive positions. In addition to the regular free throws, fouls can lead to penalts, which increases the tension in every game, the more you can look forward to the next competitions or regional tournaments, which are on the plan in view of the increasing number of members and viewers.
