Hessian master glazier Tom Richter fights for fame at EuroSkills!
A young master glazier from Hesse, Tom Richter, will represent Germany at the European Skills Challenge in Salzburg. The 22-year-old will be taking part in an exciting competition from tomorrow, November 20th to November 22nd, in which he and his fellow competitors will have to prove their skills. As the FAZ reported, the specific order for the glass construction will only be announced at the beginning of the event, which makes careful planning essential.
Richter, who successfully completed his training at Glasbau Hahn in Frankfurt, has already overcome a number of hurdles in the past. At a national preliminary competition in Düsseldorf, he beat five competitors by building a sophisticated glass cabinet and a complex shower cubicle with a sliding door. Despite a late nomination and missed training rounds, he was able to rely on his years of professional experience. “It is important to proceed in a planned manner when cutting the glasses in order to avoid errors,” explains Richter.
Promote competition in the training sector
The competition offers a unique platform to draw attention to the importance of crafts and to promote young talent. Richter not only came to prove himself, but also wants to inspire others to pursue careers in the skilled trades. “I am actively looking for a trainee for my company,” he adds, emphasizing how important it is to strengthen young craftsmen.
EuroSkills 2025, which took place in Herning, Denmark, shows how such competitions can become a showcase for vocational training and innovation. 597 young talents from 32 nations competed in 38 disciplines and Germany took an impressive second place in the nation ranking, directly behind Switzerland. That's how he reports Craft magazine.
Successes of the German participants
Team Germany won a total of 22 medals, including 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze. Klaus Vetter, another German participant who competed in the “Plumbing & Heating” category, was also able to impress the audience with his performance at these renowned skills events and received the Excellence Medal. ZVSHK President Michael Hilpert congratulated him and emphasized his role as a role model for young talent, as at the ZVSHK website is to be read.
The competition in Salzburg is all about the motto “Skilled for a Greener Future” and offers a valuable opportunity to promote exchange between countries, companies and educational systems. It remains to be seen how Tom Richter will perform, but there is great anticipation for his performance. With craftsmanship and a dose of passion, he will definitely do everything he can to shine in the competition.
