On Saturday, September 8, 2025, the old town of Salzburg was the pulsating focus for sports enthusiasts of all ages. The “Day of Sport” offered thousands of visitors the opportunity to experience the diversity of domestic sport up close. In summer weather, people flocked to Residenzplatz to be inspired by more than 30 clubs and associations that invited to try out different sports.
The army was represented with a coherent information stand and the exciting Bagjumpturm, which caused enthusiasm early on. The first brave dared their jumps an hour before the official opening. Until 6:00 p.m., five squad soldiers and four army athletes took care of the numerous visitors who were interested in these special sports. The Army performance sports center 08 from RIF delivered a highlight of the day and attracted many those interested in sports. Military reports that there was a particularly keen interest in the information stand this year.
Autograph session attracts fans
A special highlight was the autograph session with corporal Jan Hörl, a talented ski jumper, and train leader Markus Ragginger, a wrestler. From 1:30 p.m. they were ready to take photos with the fans and take autographs. This campaign provided great rush and delighted those present. Mine emphasizes that the event turned out to be a true crowd puller.
There were numerous sports opportunities for young and old. Whether pushing bobana, climbing or ball sports - visitors could try a variety of disciplines. The Armed Forces presented itself once again close to the public. In addition to the entertainment, the message was also in the foreground to promote the importance of sport and movement, which was also the focus of the activities of the Federal Ministry of State Defense stands.
Sports and the army
Sport is not only a leisure activity, but also plays an important role in the Austrian army. Promoting an active and healthy society is a central concern. Every year, the Bundesheer supports around 300 athletes financially and socially. Participation in national and international sporting events is on the agenda and underlines the anchoring of the army in Austrian sport.
For the general fitness of the soldiers, the “daily hour of sport” in basic military service is of great importance. The Army Sports Science Service ensures that sports science knowledge is used to improve physical performance. The family members of soldiers also benefit from a wide range of sports that is provided by over 100 clubs in the Army Sports Association.
The “Day of Sport” in Salzburg was not only a festival of sporting activities, but also an impressive insight into the role of the army in the field of competitive sports and health. The event has once again shown that movement is fun and bringing people together.
